Fatal Collision at Ijebu-Imushin
Tragedy struck late Monday night, March 23, 2026, at approximately 11:16 PM along the Ijebu-Imushin stretch of the Ijebu-Ode–Ore expressway. A white Toyota Hiace bus, registered as BDJ482XC, rammed into a stationary blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number RSH969XC. The truck, owned by the construction firm Julius Berger, had been left stranded on the high-speed corridor after the chain of a towing vehicle snapped. Rather than securing the scene, the driver of the towing vehicle reportedly fled immediately after the crash.
FRSC Confirms Speed Violation
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, confirmed the incident on Tuesday. Public Relations Officer Odunsi Afolabi attributed the severity of the crash to "Speed Violations (SPV)" by the bus driver. Despite the FRSC rescue team arriving within eight minutes of the alert, the impact was fatal for all occupants of the bus. The victims, identified as two adult males and two adult females, were confirmed dead at the scene.
Logistics and Legal Follow-up
The remains of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Imushin Division, has taken custody of the mangled Toyota bus and the Julius Berger truck to facilitate further forensic investigation. Authorities are currently working to track down the fleeing driver of the towing vehicle whose equipment failure initiated the sequence of events.
