Tragedy at Gaba Early Childhood Development Program
A horrific act of violence occurred on Thursday in the Ggaba suburb of Kampala, where a man armed with a machete attacked a nursery school, resulting in the deaths of four children. The incident took place at the Gaba Early Childhood Development Program, a facility typically known for its secure and upmarket environment. Local police confirmed that the victims, whose ages were reported as being between two and three years old, were killed instantly during the morning assault. This type of targeted violence against young children is considered extremely rare in the Ugandan capital, a city of approximately 3 million people.
Deception and the Sequence of the Attack
According to eyewitness accounts and reports from the local Daily Monitor newspaper, the suspect employed a calculated deception to gain entry to the premises. He reportedly disguised himself as a parent seeking information about enrolling a child. Once inside the school's offices, he engaged in a brief conversation with the administrator in charge. Following this interaction, the man stepped outside, locked the school's gate to prevent escape or intervention, and began attacking the children one by one with a "sharp object."
Police Response and Arrest
Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that at least four children lost their lives in the brutal assault. While an "unspecified number" of other children were present, the suspect was apprehended by authorities shortly after the alarm was raised. Police have not yet established a motive for the killings, and the suspect is currently being interrogated to determine his background and any potential links to the school or the community. Security forces have cordoned off the area as forensic teams continue to gather evidence from the scene.
