Abrupt Exit from MK Leadership

Dr. Bongani Mncwango’s transition from the MK Party to the IFP follows a period of significant internal friction. Speaking in an interview after the announcement, Mncwango revealed that his removal from the position of secretary-general came as a total shock during what he believed was a routine national officials' meeting. He noted that despite being the eighth person to hold the role in a short period, he was never provided with a formal reason for his dismissal, describing the experience as being "given the cold shoulder" by the party's top brass.

Critique of MK Party Internal Dysfunction

Mncwango offered a candid assessment of the operational environment within the MK Party, specifically criticizing the influence of former President Jacob Zuma. He alleged that the organization is largely driven by a "rumour mill" and "gossip" rather than direct professional engagement. Mncwango emphasized that a healthy leadership structure should have allowed for a sit-down discussion regarding any performance concerns, but instead, he felt sidelined and unappreciated in the weeks leading up to his exit.

Choosing the IFP Over Other Offers

Following his departure from MK, Mncwango disclosed that he had been approached by four different political organizations. He ultimately chose the IFP, citing its organizational stability, mature leadership, and growth potential as the primary factors that "ticked every box." He clarified that his move was not motivated by a desire for power, noting that he has joined the IFP as an ordinary member without an allocated position, mirroring his initial entry into MK where he was appointed without lobbying for the role.
