Judicial District Hands Down Lengthy Sentence For Position Of Trust Breach
A former educator in Douglas County will serve over a decade in state prison following the resolution of a high profile sexual exploitation case. Tera Johnson-Swartz was sentenced on Friday by the 23rd Judicial District Court after pleading guilty to felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child and cybercrime. The charges stem from a predatory relationship with a 16 year old student, which investigators say began with digital grooming and escalated into multiple physical assaults.
Digital Solicitation Preceded Physical Meetings Outside School Grounds
According to evidence presented by the District Attorney’s Office, Johnson-Swartz initiated the illicit contact by sending music and persistent text messages to the student. Over several weeks, the communication evolved from casual conversation to coercive grooming. Prosecutors stated that Johnson-Swartz eventually convinced the minor to meet her at a location away from school grounds, where she provided him with cigarettes before committing the initial sexual assault.
Investigation Details Multiple Incidents And Additional Felony Charges
The sentencing concludes a legal process that began in February 2025 when Douglas County deputies first arrested Johnson-Swartz on initial charges of kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. As the Special Victims Unit delved deeper into the suspect's digital history and the victim's testimony, additional charges were filed, including sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. The investigation revealed that the assaults occurred across multiple sessions following their first out of school meeting.
