The declaration, made on Monday, April 13, marks a definitive turning point in Suswam’s career as he transitions to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move is seen as a strategic alignment with the party currently holding sway in both the state and national landscape.

Aligning With Shifting Political Loyalties

Reflecting on his political journey since 1998, Suswam noted that Benue voters historically move in blocks toward a single dominant party. He pointed out that while the state was a stronghold for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during its first 16 years of democratic rule, the populace has since shifted its allegiance to the APC. Suswam stated that as a son of the soil, he chose to follow the principles and philosophy that his constituents now believe in.

The former governor explained that his decision to seek a Senate seat is born out of a continued desire to serve while remaining within legal limits.
