A Legacy of Leadership During Turbulent Times
Bruno Famin’s tenure at Alpine was defined by his role as a stabilizing force during one of the most volatile periods in the team’s recent history. Originally joining in early 2022 to lead the Renault engine program at Viry-Châtillon, Famin’s responsibilities expanded rapidly as the organization underwent multiple high-profile management shifts. Following the sudden departure of Otmar Szafnauer in mid-2023, Famin stepped into the role of interim team principal while simultaneously serving as Vice President of Alpine Motorsports. His leadership covered the team’s activities across Formula 1, the World Endurance Championship (WEC), and the Alpine Academy, providing a single point of oversight during a time of fragmented corporate strategy.
Transitioning from Power Units to Hypertech
One of the most significant shifts during Famin’s final year was the winding down of the Renault Formula 1 power unit program. As Alpine moved toward a planned exit from engine manufacturing, Famin was tasked with overseeing the transformation of the Viry-Châtillon factory into "Hypertech Alpine," a specialized hub for advanced technology development. This move marked a fundamental change in the brand's identity, pivoting away from its heritage as a works engine supplier. Famin remained at the helm of this transition until mid-2024, when he was succeeded by Oli Oakes in the Formula 1 team principal role, allowing him to focus on the broader technological and endurance racing goals of the company.
Successes in the World Endurance Championship
Beyond the Formula 1 paddock, Famin played a pivotal role in the resurgence of Alpine’s endurance racing efforts. Working alongside team principal Philippe Sinault, Famin was instrumental in establishing the project’s early development phases, which yielded tangible results on the global stage. During his oversight, the WEC team secured three podium finishes and a notable victory at the 6 Hours of Fuji. Axel Plasse, Vice President of Hypertech Alpine, credited Famin’s commitment as a "key role" in the project’s foundation, noting that his technical expertise from his years at Peugeot Sport was a vital asset in the team’s competitive maturation.
