Asymmetric threats to British soil
In an exclusive analysis, Gene Sticco, a former nuclear protection specialist for the United States Air Force, has outlined the "deteriorating" security situation facing the United Kingdom. Sticco argues that Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s recent decision to permit the use of British military bases for defensive operations in the Gulf has "crossed a line" that Tehran will perceive as active participation in the conflict. While Iran’s conventional military range is insufficient to reliably strike the UK mainland, Sticco warns that the threat remains asymmetric and covert, likely utilizing long-standing intelligence networks already established across Europe.
High-priority military and intelligence targets
Should Iran choose to retaliate against the British mainland through unconventional or cyber means, Sticco identified four specific locations as the most probable targets:
RAF Fairford (Cotswolds): An airfield historically utilized by U.S. forces for long-range heavy bombing operations and currently poised for use in the Iran theater.
HMNB Portsmouth: The primary station for two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet, including Britain’s aircraft carriers.
