A Century-Old Legacy Ends in Silence

After 134 years of serving the rural Manawatū community, the classrooms and playing fields of Linton Country School are awaiting a new chapter. Founded in 1889, the school was once the primary educational hub for the district before the establishment of the nearby Linton Camp School at the military base led to a gradual decline in enrollment. By its final years, the roll struggled to exceed 20 students, leading to its ultimate closure in 2023.

The property, currently marketed by Harcourts agent Tim Cook, remains a "time capsule" of New Zealand rural education. Brightly colored corridors, student artwork, and even drawings on blackboards remain intact, though the building is now home to local birdlife and spiders. "It had a lot of history," Cook noted during a tour of the site. "At the peak of it, they were even using the headmaster's house as a classroom."

Property Highlights and Development Potential

Valued at approximately $1.3 million, the 1.9-hectare estate offers a unique proposition for developers or community groups. The site is zoned rural and features three potential road access points with distant views stretching toward Kāpiti Island.

The sale is "as-is, where-is," meaning the successful tenderer will inherit:
