Violent Incident at Crestview Residence

The Crestview Police Department responded to a 911 call early Thursday morning regarding a child in medical distress. Upon arrival at the home, officers and paramedics found a 3 year old girl who was not breathing and exhibited visible signs of physical trauma. The child’s mother was reportedly at work during the time of the incident, leaving the toddler under the sole care of her boyfriend, Cory Coombs.

As medical teams worked to stabilize the child, investigators observed suspicious injuries that did not align with accidental causes. The toddler was rushed to a local trauma center, but medical staff were unable to revive her. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and local police immediately secured the residence as a crime scene, launching a homicide investigation into the events leading up to the 911 call.

Details of the Alleged Abuse and Restraint

During the initial interrogation, police uncovered evidence suggesting that the child had been subjected to extreme physical restraint. Investigators allege that Coombs used materials found in the home to bind the toddler’s wrists and ankles. This restraint reportedly took place before the suspect allegedly delivered a series of forceful blows to the child’s head and torso, which ultimately caused internal bleeding and organ failure.

Forensic specialists processing the home recovered items consistent with the restraint described in the police report. The level of violence described by the authorities has prompted the State Attorney’s Office to pursue the most severe charges available. Coombs remains in custody without bond at the Okaloosa County Jail, facing one count of first degree murder and one count of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.
