The Conversion Pipeline
According to the Charter School Agency, the transition process is moving from initial inquiries into formal negotiations for several institutions:
Expressions of Interest: 18 groups (up from 12 in September 2025).
Contract Negotiations: 3 schools are currently in active negotiations (up from 2).
While the agency maintains a policy of not naming all applicants, several high-profile schools have self-identified or been confirmed through sponsors:
Northland College: Currently being finalized for conversion by sponsor Te Rūnanga-Ā-Iwi-O-Ngāpuhi.
