Inauguration of the Pilot Food Bank in Borno

Nigeria has reached a significant milestone in its nutrition support campaign with the launch of the National Community Food Bank program. First Lady Oluremi Tinubu inaugurated the very first facility at the Shuwari-II Primary Healthcare Centre in Bolori, Borno State. During the ceremony, she emphasized that the intervention represents a critical line of protection for Nigerian children against the growing threat of malnutrition in the North East zone and beyond.

Multi-Sectoral Strategy for Vulnerable Groups

The program is specifically designed to provide sustainable access to nutritious food for children under the age of six and pregnant women. By establishing food banks directly within primary healthcare centers, the initiative ensures that nutritional support is integrated with basic medical care. Furthermore, the platform encourages the bio-fortification of food from the source, aiming to improve the long-term nutritional quality of local diets through cross-sectoral collaboration between health and agricultural sectors.

Additional Developmental Projects in Maiduguri

The First Lady's visit to Borno State also included the inauguration of several key infrastructure projects completed under the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum. These include a new Nurses Quarters and a mega school, the Alli Yaskeri Primary School, both located in Maiduguri. These projects are intended to strengthen the state's social service capacity and provide improved learning environments for students in the region.
