Operational Scaling at the Limeco Facility in Zambia
Firering Strategic Minerals has announced a period of intensive operational growth at its Limeco plant, specifically highlighting the successful ramp-up of its second kiln. Performance metrics indicate that Kiln 2 is now consistently exceeding discharge rates of 60 tonnes per day, outperforming the facility’s first kiln following a series of strategic internal modifications. According to the company, these optimisation activities are critical to establishing a reliable production baseline as the plant moves toward its maximum targeted output. The advancement has provided a clear proof of concept for the technical upgrades designed by the internal engineering team.
Strategic Expansion of Kiln Capacity and Infrastructure
Building on the success of the initial units, the company has officially launched work to bring Kilns 3 and 4 into the active production line. This expansion involves complex fabrication of piping systems to connect the units to the onsite gasifier, alongside the construction of new feed system hoppers and burner modifications. According to the project timeline, Kiln 3 is slated for commissioning in the third quarter of the year, with Kiln 4 expected to follow in the fourth quarter. Once fully operational, the expanded kiln battery will significantly increase the total quicklime volume available for regional distribution.
Development of Hydrated Lime and Milling Circuits
In addition to primary kiln operations, Firering is aggressively expanding its downstream processing capabilities. The hydrated lime circuit now features four operating units built entirely in-house, with a fifth unit currently under construction to bolster shift capacity. Each existing unit contributes approximately eight tonnes per shift, and the company intends to transition to a fully automated process once all four kilns are synchronized. Furthermore, the installation of a limestone powder milling circuit is progressing, with civil works nearing completion ahead of a scheduled third-quarter commissioning.
