Scope of the Room Releases
The scale of the cancellations varies by city but represents a substantial portion of the inventory initially "blocked" two to three years ago. Confirmed figures include:
Philadelphia: 2,000 rooms released out of an original 10,000-room block.
Mexico City: 800 rooms released out of a 2,000-room block (approximately 40%).
Boston: An undisclosed number of rooms released, with local tourism arm Meet Boston confirming the pullback applies to all U.S. host cities.
These rooms were originally designated for FIFA’s "constituent groups," including match officials, technical staff, referees, and operational personnel.
