A Federal Crackdown On Violent Recidivism
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania announced a major indictment on Thursday, targeting three individuals accused of orchestrating a wave of violence across the Pittsburgh region. Armoni Burton, Ausaun Porter, and Lawrence Strothers Jr. are named in a 14 count document that details a reckless disregard for public safety and federal law. The investigation, which brought together local police and federal agents from the ATF and the Postal Inspection Service, highlights a coordinated effort to dismantle small, violent cells operating in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties.
Details Of The Violent White Oak Carjacking
The most severe allegations stem from an early January incident in White Oak, where Burton and Porter allegedly intercepted a vehicle at gunpoint. According to federal prosecutors, the pair did not merely steal the car but kidnapped the occupant, subjecting them to a harrowing ordeal. The victim was reportedly struck multiple times, bound at the wrists and ankles, and threatened with further violence. During the abduction, the suspects allegedly utilized the victim's own cellular device to place a ransom call, demanding payment for the individual's safe return before attempting to dispose of the bound victim in a dumpster in the Greenfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Postal Robberies And Narcotics Trafficking
Beyond the kidnapping charges, Armoni Burton faces specific counts related to a December 31 robbery of a United States Postal Service delivery person. This aspect of the indictment underscores a rise in federal interest regarding crimes against postal infrastructure and employees. Additionally, the grand jury cited a January 21 incident where Burton was allegedly found in possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, alongside stolen mail and quantities of marijuana. These overlapping charges suggest a criminal enterprise that balanced street level violence with organized mail theft and narcotics sales.
