A National Call to Action for Youth Education

The Federal Government has issued a strong appeal to stakeholders across Nigeria to prioritize investment in the education of young children. During a visit to Kogi State on Monday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, emphasized that educating the youth is the most effective strategy for reducing the number of out-of-school children and ensuring they become productive members of society. Alausa noted that the future of the nation depends on purpose-driven preparation through quality instruction and vocational empowerment.

Commissioning the GYB Model Science Schools

The Minister’s remarks coincided with the official commissioning of the ultra-modern GYB Model Science Secondary Schools in Nagazi (Adavi LGA) and Oke-Ibukun (Kabba/Bunu LGA). These "mega schools" are designed to provide a competitive workforce by focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo stated that these facilities represent his administration’s commitment to transforming Kogi into a regional "knowledge center" by nurturing critical thinking and innovation among its students.

Federal Support and the NELFUND Initiative

To address the financial barriers to higher education, Dr. Alausa highlighted the success of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). He revealed that the Federal Government has disbursed over N200 billion to eligible students in less than two and a half years. This program is intended to ensure that no Nigerian student is deprived of tertiary education due to a lack of funds, complementing the primary and secondary investments being made at the state level.
