Federal Findings on the West Bloomfield Assault
The FBI has finalized its assessment of the March 12 attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, identifying the incident as a targeted act of international terrorism. Jennifer Runyan, the special agent in charge of the Detroit Field Office, confirmed that the perpetrator was driven by the militant ideology of Hezbollah. This determination follows a weeks long forensic review of the suspect,s digital communications and physical actions, which revealed a calculated effort to strike the largest Jewish congregation in the state of Michigan.
The Perpetrator and the Morning of the Attack
Ayman Ghazali, a 41 year old naturalized citizen, has been identified as the sole individual responsible for the violent breach. On the morning of the assault, Ghazali transmitted nineteen separate videos and messages to his sister in Lebanon, explicitly detailing his desire for martyrdom. According to federal authorities, these communications contained direct threats against what Ghazali described as a massive gathering of Israelis. Ten minutes after sending a final video stating his intent to kill as many people as possible, he initiated the vehicular ramming.
Chronology of the Synagogue Breach
The attack commenced at 12:19 p.m. when Ghazali drove a truck laden with gasoline and fireworks through the main entrance of the temple. After navigating the vehicle down a hallway, the suspect engaged in a brief but intense firefight with the facility,s private security team. The incident concluded when Ghazali ignited the pyrotechnics inside his vehicle and succumbed to what investigators believe was a self inflicted gunshot wound. While a security guard sustained injuries from the initial impact, the temple,s quick evacuation of 140 people prevented further casualties.
