At approximately 02:00 local time, a suspect identified as Ndiaga Diagne initiated a targeted attack by firing a pistol from a slow moving SUV with its hazard lights activated, striking several people on the patio and sidewalk. According to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, the assailant subsequently parked his vehicle and approached the establishment on foot while armed with a rifle. Three police officers on patrol in the high traffic area confronted the suspect at a nearby intersection, fatally shooting him and ending the immediate threat.
