Emergency Response to a High Impact Water Landing

A severe vehicular accident occurred in the Amuloko area of Ibadan when a passenger bus lost control and descended into the Ariyo River. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency launched an immediate search and rescue operation following a distress call received on Wednesday afternoon. Moroof Akinwande, the agency’s chairman, confirmed that rescue personnel arrived at the scene to find the vehicle, a Suzuki bus registered in Osun State, partially submerged with eight individuals trapped inside.

Rescue Efforts and Casualty Management

During the intensive operation, emergency teams managed to pull five passengers from the wreckage alive. These survivors were immediately stabilized and transported to Ona Ara Private Hospital in the Jegede area for urgent medical attention. Despite the rapid response, three passengers did not survive the impact. Their bodies were recovered from the river and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Ogbere Divisional Headquarters, under the supervision of ASP Aishat Ibrahim, for further identification and processing.

Preliminary Investigation Into the Cause of Crash

While the technical details of the vehicle's failure are still under review, initial assessments from the Fire Services Agency point toward human error. Chairman Akinwande attributed the fatal plunge to reckless driving, noting that the driver appeared to have lost control while navigating the Amuloko Road. This specific corridor has been the focus of recent traffic safety discussions, and officials are using this tragedy to reiterate the dangers of exceeding safe speed limits in high-density transit zones.
