The Fatal Easter Weekend Collision

The incident occurred in Logan Reserve, south of Brisbane, during the Easter long weekend. Roza Abebwa, a resident of Wyndham Vale in Victoria, was a passenger in a Ford Focus that was struck head-on by a Ford Falcon ute. Police investigators are currently looking into reports that the ute, occupied by four teenagers, had been performing dangerous maneuvers at a nearby "hooning" or illegal street racing meet shortly before the collision. Initial reports suggest the ute was traveling at high speed on the incorrect side of the road at the moment of impact.

Survivors and Victims of the Crash

The crash has left a large family devastated and several others injured. Roza’s two-year-old daughter and her 28-year-old niece were also in the vehicle and sustained significant injuries. Both remain in a Queensland hospital where they are reportedly recovering. Roza, a mother of eight and grandmother of seven, died at the scene. Her sons, Rashidi and Gode Edward, described her as a "light for everyone she knew," highlighting her warmth and her talent for bringing the family together through food and care.

Investigation Into Illegal Street Racing Links

Queensland Police are investigating the movements of the four teenagers involved in the crash. The focus of the inquiry is whether the high-speed transit on the wrong side of the road was a direct result of participation in an organized car meet. "Hooning" remains a significant public safety concern in the Logan area, and authorities are examining dashcam footage and witness statements from the Logan Reserve vicinity. As of Tuesday, April 7, no formal charges have been laid, but the investigation remains active.
