Turin: The Historic Engine of Coffee Innovation

Turin has long been a center for European coffee culture, home to iconic Locali Storici d’Italia (Historic Places of Italy) like Caffe San Carlo and Caffe Bicerin. It was here in 1884 that Angelo Morindo patented the first steam-driven machinery for instantaneous coffee brewing, a precursor to the modern espresso machine. The Lavazza Museum honors this local history while showcasing the city's unique tradition of pairing dark chocolate with espresso—a pairing that birthed the famous Bicerin beverage.

A Multisensory Museum Experience

The museum is housed within the Nuvola Lavazza, a 300,000-square-foot complex designed by architect Cino Zucchi. Upon entry, guests are issued a "smart" espresso cup embedded with a computer chip, which acts as a digital key to activate multimedia displays across five distinct galleries:

Casa Lavazza: A narrative timeline of the family business, featuring a replica of Luigi Lavazza’s original grocery store.

La Fabbrica: An educational space focused on the production cycle, from plantations to roasting.
