Driving Economic Independence for Women Entrepreneurs
In a significant move to boost grassroots entrepreneurship, the Esther Matthew Tonlagha (EMT) Foundation has disbursed 15 million Naira in business grants to 30 women in Delta State. Each recipient received N500,000, intended to serve as seed capital and a leadership tool to scale their ventures. This initiative is part of a three-year track record of economic empowerment by the foundation, which seeks to equip socially deprived individuals with the confidence to lead within their communities. The founder, Dr. Esther Matthew Tonlagha, emphasized that the grants are aimed at ensuring that intellectual resourcefulness and leadership potential are not stifled by a lack of financial capital.
Large-Scale Medical Outreach in Gbaramatu Kingdom
Beyond financial support, the EMT Foundation recently concluded a comprehensive five-day medical mission in Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom. The program, powered by Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited, offered free medical checkups and eye surgeries to approximately 2,000 beneficiaries. This intervention was designed specifically for residents who face barriers to quality healthcare due to high costs and geographical constraints. The foundation noted that addressing these health challenges is vital for social development, as poor well-being often prevents individuals from contributing to the progress of their respective societies.
A Holistic Approach to Social Advocacy
The foundation’s recent activities reflect a diversified social intervention strategy. In addition to the business grants and the Gbaramatu medical mission, the EMT Foundation has provided financial support for 200 patients suffering from sickle cell disease. Furthermore, the organization has funded technical skills training for scores of students, aiming to enhance their employability in various professional sectors. By addressing health, education, and economic stability simultaneously, the foundation is attempting to create a sustainable model of community development that targets the root causes of social injustice and poverty in Nigeria.
