Structural Failure Following Heavy Rains
Access to one of the primary entry points of the Kruger National Park has been severely disrupted following the collapse of a bridge on the R531-2. The structure, located near the Wits Rural Facility on Orpen Road, was washed away over the weekend as torrential rains battered the Limpopo province. Authorities moved quickly on Monday to cordoned off the area, confirming that the road is entirely impassable for all vehicle types.
Limpopo Transport Department Response
Mashudu Mabata, spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Transport, confirmed that law enforcement and technical assessment teams were deployed to the site on Monday afternoon. While the extent of the damage is still being surveyed, the department has made it clear that the closure will remain in effect until further notice. Motorists have been warned to adhere to the roadblocks, as attempting to cross the affected section poses a life-threatening risk.
Official Detours and Alternative Routes
