The Silence from Management
Ekenasio, who led the Silver Ferns to World Cup and Constellation Cup glory, says her relationship with the national high-performance team has effectively ended.
No Contact: Since making herself unavailable to prioritize mental and physical wellbeing last year, she has not spoken with head coach Dame Noeline Taurua. "I'm just not really a piece of that puzzle anymore," Ekenasio told RNZ.
The Review Aftermath: Her withdrawal was followed by a tumultuous period where Taurua was briefly stood down following player complaints and an independent review. While Taurua was reinstated in October 2025, Ekenasio remained outside the environment.
Official Stance: Netball NZ declined to comment on the lack of communication, stating they do not discuss "private player conversations."
