Mchunu Revives Hostilities During Anti-Foreigner Marches
The long-standing friction between the EFF and Ngizwe Mchunu escalated this week after the former Ukhozi FM presenter used public platforms to renew his attacks on Julius Malema. Speaking at marches against illegal foreigners in Durban and the Eastern Cape, Mchunu declared that the EFF president was unwelcome in both provinces. He further accused Malema of corruption, framing his presence as a threat to local interests and stoking tribal sentiments by suggesting Malema should remain in his home province of Limpopo.
EFF Response: Prioritizing Economic Crisis Over Insults
Vukani Ndlovu, the EFF provincial secretary in KwaZulu-Natal, issued a scathing rebuttal, describing Mchunu as a "nincompoop" and an attention seeker. Ndlovu stated that the party is currently preoccupied with a "serious fight" against the looming petrol price hike scheduled for April 1, 2026, which threatens to plunge South African households into further financial distress. He argued that the party’s constituents are more concerned with hunger, unemployment, and crime than the "insults" of a former media personality.
A History of Disruptions and Sponsorship Losses
This is not the first instance of Mchunu attempting to block the EFF’s activities. In 2024, ahead of the general elections, Mchunu famously vowed that Malema would only enter KZN "after his death," an attempt to stop the EFF’s manifesto launch at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The rivalry previously led to significant financial consequences for Mchunu; he lost a major car sponsorship with JAC Motors after the EFF formally complained that his rhetoric was stoking dangerous tribalism within the province.
