Targeted strikes on communication infrastructure

A security source has confirmed that three drones struck Zmnako Mountain near the Darbandikhan district on Thursday afternoon. The aerial vehicles targeted a strategic location housing telecommunications infrastructure, specifically towers operated by the mobile provider Asiacell and the Kurdistan radio channel. Of the three drones deployed in the attack, two detonated upon impact near the towers, while the third failed to explode. Security forces and specialized operations units were immediately dispatched to the scene to secure the area and recover the unexploded device for further technical analysis.

Origin and trajectory of the aerial attack

Initial investigations conducted by local security officials suggest a clear point of origin for the drones. Based on the flight path and direction of the strike, authorities believe the drones were launched from Iranian territory. This assessment aligns with the broader pattern of military activity observed since the start of the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran on February 28. The border regions of the Sulaymaniyah governorate have become increasingly vulnerable to such incursions as regional tensions translate into kinetic actions against infrastructure within the Kurdistan Region.

Lack of casualties and immediate response

Despite the precision of the strikes on the mountain facilities, no human casualties were reported in the immediate aftermath of the explosions. The primary damage appears to be localized to the telecommunications equipment and the immediate surrounding area on the mountain. Operations units are currently working to neutralize the unexploded drone, which could provide critical intelligence regarding the specific technology and manufacturing origin of the systems being utilized in these cross border strikes.
