Not What You Expect from the Title
Despite what the current cultural climate might suggest, Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer’s "Drag" has nothing to do with gender performance. Instead, it takes its name from the literal, grueling task of pulling a body across a floor. The film stars Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito as unnamed sisters—credited simply as "Fuckup" and "Sister"—who find themselves trapped in a rural nightmare after a petty theft attempt goes catastrophically sideways.
A Slapstick Injury Meets a Sinister Host
The plot kicks off when Caplan’s character breaks into a secluded, art-filled home to settle an alleged debt. The heist is cut short not by security, but by a freak accident: she falls into a jacuzzi and throws out her back, rendered completely immobile. DeVito, the responsible sibling reluctantly acting as the lookout, is forced inside to rescue her. Their escape is delayed when the homeowner, a sophisticated abstract painter played by John Stamos, returns early for a date with an aspiring artist (Christine Ko).
From Petty Crime to Serial Horror
The tension shifts from the fear of being caught to the horror of what Stamos’s character is hiding. As the sisters hide beneath the floorboards and behind furniture, they realize the house is a graveyard for women met through dating apps. The film deftly balances the siblings' lifelong resentment and constant squabbling with the high-stakes necessity of rescuing Stamos’s latest "date" before she becomes his next subject.
