A Surge in Aerial Bombardment Across Donetsk
The security situation in the Donetsk region has reached a critical level of intensity as Russian forces unleashed over 1,500 strikes against both military and civilian targets on April 2. According to the communication department of the Donetsk regional police, the current offensive is characterized by a heavy reliance on guided aerial bombs and unmanned systems. This relentless pressure has resulted in the deaths of three civilians and significant injuries to 13 others, highlighting the extreme danger faced by those remaining in the contested border cities. Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that the strikes targeted at least eight distinct settlements, including major urban centers like Slovyansk and Kramatorsk.
Druzhkivka Under Sustained High-Explosive Assault
Druzhkivka was subjected to a particularly brutal wave of 12 strikes, 11 of which involved high-powered aerial bombs. This concentrated bombardment resulted in one confirmed death and 11 injuries among the local population. The physical toll on the city’s infrastructure is extensive, with 30 private residences and two administrative buildings sustaining severe damage. The use of multiple aerial bombs in a single urban area suggests a strategy of systemic destruction aimed at rendering the city uninhabitable and disrupting the local administration’s ability to function.
Fatalities and Structural Ruin in Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka
In the settlement of Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka, the human cost was even higher, with two civilians killed and two others injured in a direct strike that leveled a private residence. The National Police of Ukraine reported that the total destruction of homes in these smaller communities is becoming a common occurrence as heavy munitions are deployed against residential sectors. The loss of life in these strikes is being investigated by the SBU and police as part of ongoing war crimes proceedings under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, focusing on the intentional targeting of non-combatants and their property.
