Testimony of First Responders
Dr. Juan Carlos Pinto, the emergency room physician who arrived by ambulance at Maradona's rented residence in November 2020, testified about the "grotesque" physical state of the star. Pinto described finding Maradona with severe edema an accumulation of fluid that left his face and limbs heavily swollen.
Most notably, the physician described a "globular abdomen," which forensic footage confirmed was significantly distended. Pinto clarified that this was likely a result of ascites, an abnormal buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity frequently associated with liver cirrhosis, as well as fat.
Lack of Essential Medical Equipment
The trial focused heavily on the environment in which Maradona was supposedly "recuperating" following surgery for a brain clot. Both Dr. Pinto and a police officer testified that the residence lacked even the most basic life-saving tools.
Missing Equipment: There was no defibrillator or oxygen supply present in the room.
