To ensure cultural and artistic continuity, the production team includes Auli‘i Cravalho—the original voice of Moana—and Lin-Manuel Miranda as producers. Johnson has been vocal about the physical demands of the role, revealing that his transformation into Maui required several hours of makeup and costume application each day on the Hawaiʻi-based set.
