Strategic Retreat From A Landmark Destination

The 16 year old distilling company Deep Eddy Vodka is officially ending its consumer facing operations in Dripping Springs, Texas, marking a significant transition for the local tourism staple. Effective June 13, the brand will shutter its tasting room and visitors’ center, facilities that have served as the public face of the company since 2014. According to a company spokesperson, the move is part of a deliberate effort to reposition the brand’s experiential offerings closer to Austin, the city where the label was originally established in 2010.

The Sublease Agreement With A Texas Rival

Rather than abandoning the real estate entirely, Deep Eddy has entered into a sublease agreement with Goodnight Loving Vodka, an unaffiliated Texas based distillery. This arrangement allows the Dripping Springs facility to remain an active site for spirits enthusiasts, albeit under a different banner. While Deep Eddy spent years cultivating the location as a destination for its flavored vodka portfolio, the site will now serve as a platform for a competitor, illustrating the fluid nature of the regional spirits market.

Consolidation Under The Heaven Hill Portfolio

Since its acquisition in 2015 by whiskey giant Heaven Hill Distillery, Deep Eddy has undergone several structural changes to maximize efficiency. The brand had already moved its core distilling operations to a larger facility in Buda, Texas, back in 2017, leaving the Dripping Springs site primarily for marketing and hospitality. Despite an investment of nearly $1 million in 2019 to add a 38 foot bar, a performance stage, and seating for 200 people, Heaven Hill has determined that the long term value lies in consolidating consumer engagement within the Austin metropolitan area.
