Legal Consequences for FA Cup Winning Manager
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been issued a six month driving disqualification by Willesden Magistrates' Court following a speeding incident in South London. The 51 year old Austrian, who led the Eagles to FA Cup success last season, was caught by a speed camera while driving his BMW on the Old Kent Road in July. Court records indicate that Glasner was traveling at 29 mph in an area restricted to 20 mph, a violation that occurred near a Tesco supermarket at approximately 7.30 a.m.
Automatic Disqualification Under Licensing Regulations
The prosecution, initiated by the Metropolitan Police, revealed that Glasner initially attempted to resolve the matter by paying a standard fine. However, case worker Emily Delroy confirmed that the addition of new penalty points would have brought the manager’s total to 12 or more, requiring a formal court referral for a mandatory ban. Although the magistrate sat in private under the Single Justice Procedure, the details were made public this week, confirming that the court had to refund Glasner’s initial payment to proceed with the disqualification.
Accountability and Judicial Cooperation
In a handwritten submission to the court, Glasner expressed full responsibility for the violation and opted not to argue against the impending ban. According to Glasner, he understands the seriousness of the matter and has already taken steps to ensure that such an incident does not occur again. He specifically noted the nature of his professional role as a reason for addressing the issue directly, and he pleaded guilty in writing earlier this year on January 27.
