The Origin of the Brando Speculation The 61-year-old musician explained that for decades, she believed Brando might be her grandfather due to a rumored connection between him and her grandmother, Paula Fox. Both Fox and Brando lived with influential acting coach Stella Adler in the early 1940s, around the time Love’s mother, Linda Carroll, was conceived. Fox later gave Carroll up for adoption, and Love only discovered the identity of her biological grandmother well into her adulthood.
An Unimpressive Meeting Facilitated by Warren Beatty Love recounted how she eventually lobbied Brando’s neighbor, actor Warren Beatty, to facilitate an introduction. After writing a note to Brando promising she had no ulterior motives, she finally met the screen legend. However, the experience did not live up to the icon’s public persona. Love described Brando as "super repulsive," a trait she humorously noted made her feel more related to him at the time. Despite her initial impression, Love noted that the encounter confirmed her belief that they shared a similar "vibe" or physical resemblance.
The Decision Against DNA Testing While at Brando’s residence, Love admitted she considered a surreptitious DNA test. She recalled eyeing his toothbrush in the bathroom, realizing she could easily resolve the mystery of her lineage. Ultimately, she chose not to take it, citing her personal integrity and a "feminist" desire to not rely on a famous man's surname. Love eventually confirmed through other means that Brando was not her grandfather, noting that her actual biological grandfather was a significantly taller man.
A Volatile Relationship with Paula Fox The podcast also touched on Love’s brief and strained relationship with Paula Fox, who passed away in 2017. The two met only once, an encounter Fox famously described as "an hour in the devil's pocket." Love noted that Fox’s intense dislike of her was "inexplicable," yet she acknowledged the dark humor in their shared history. Love previously joked that her facial features before cosmetic surgery strongly resembled Brando’s, adding another layer to the long-running family legend.
Legacy and Career Context Love's appearance on Corgan's podcast comes as she continues to remain a prominent voice in rock history and pop culture commentary. As a veteran of the 1990s grunge scene, her reflections on Hollywood's old guard—represented by...
