The "Extra Mile" in Boise
The incident began when Simpson, working a Friday night shift at Domino’s, discovered the restaurant had run out of Diet Coke for a scheduled delivery. Rather than simply delivering the meal without the beverage or offering a substitute, Simpson used his own time and money to stop at a local grocery store to purchase two liter bottles of the soda for customers Brian and Katey Wilson.
Doorbell camera footage captured the moment Simpson arrived at the Wilson residence, apologizing for the minor delay and waving off an offer for an additional tip. At the time, Simpson was unaware that both Brian and Katey Wilson live with visual impairments, making a "quick trip" to the store a significant challenge for them. This context transformed a standard customer service gesture into a deeply impactful act of kindness for the recipients.
A Viral Catalyst for Change
Brian Wilson shared the doorbell footage on TikTok, where it quickly amassed 2.5 million views. The video resonated with a global audience, leading to thousands of comments praising Simpson's work ethic and humility. Spurred by the overwhelming response, the Wilsons launched a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of giving Simpson a meaningful send off into his fast approaching retirement.
The fundraiser saw rapid participation from strangers across the internet. As of early April 2026, the total amount raised reached $43,250. Simpson, who also works a day job at the Idaho Department of Agriculture, initially expressed skepticism, fearing the influx of donations might be a digital scam before realizing the scale of the community's support.
