Equipment Theft at High Traffic Resort Base
The Breckenridge Police Department has launched an investigation into the brazen theft of winter sports gear at one of Colorado's busiest ski destinations. On the afternoon of March 1, 2026, an unidentified individual reportedly walked away with a Nidecker snowboard that did not belong to him near the Quicksilver lift at Peak 9. According to local law enforcement, the act occurred in a high visibility area, yet the suspect managed to depart the scene before the owner could intervene or alert resort security.
Identifying the Suspect in the Peak 9 Incident
Police have released a detailed description of the male suspect in hopes that witnesses or other resort guests may recognize him from the day of the theft. The individual is described as an adult white male, approximately 5'8" with a thin build, who was last seen wearing a black helmet, a gray and black winter coat, and light blue snow pants. According to the official news release, investigators are requesting that anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or the whereabouts of the Nidecker board contact the department directly.
A Separate Search for an Unidentified Rider in Winter Park
Further north at Winter Park Resort, the Fraser Winter Park Police Department is managing a more serious investigation involving physical injury. On the same day as the Breckenridge theft, an eight year old boy was struck by a snowboarder while stopped on a trail below the Prospector Express lift. According to witness statements, the collision resulted in the child sustaining a concussion and significant facial injuries. The adult male snowboarder allegedly spoke briefly to the victim before riding away from the scene without providing identification or seeking medical assistance for the child.
