The Driveway Ambush And Tragic Loss
The fatal incident occurred on February 7, 2025, on East 147th Street in Cleveland. Kaden Coleman, aged 10, was seated in the back of a car with his mother and a 35-year-old male driver. As the vehicle was backing out of a driveway, Jeffrey Grant and an unidentified accomplice approached in a rental vehicle and opened fire. Multiple rounds struck the car, with one bullet hitting Kaden in the head. In a desperate attempt to save the boy, the driver fled the scene and drove directly to the Fourth District Police Station. EMS subsequently transported Kaden to University’s Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
A Jury's Swift Verdict
The legal proceedings against the couple began on February 2, 2026, under the supervision of Judge Michael Shaughnessy. Following a two-week trial, a jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts on February 17. Jeffrey Grant was convicted of aggravated murder, murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. Lanaemarshe Grant was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, reflecting her role in the events surrounding the fatal encounter and the couple's broader criminal activities.
Uncovering A Major Drug Lab
The investigation into the shooting led Cleveland Police to execute a search warrant at the couple's home in Maple Heights just three days after Kaden’s death. Upon entering the premises, officers discovered far more than evidence related to the shooting. In the basement, law enforcement uncovered a sophisticated drug laboratory and over 550 grams of cocaine. Consequently, both Jeffrey and Lanaemarshe were convicted of trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine, and possessing criminal tools in addition to the homicide charges.
