High Speed Racing Leads to Violent Pinellas Collision

A 19-year-old resident of Clearwater faces felony charges following a January street racing incident that caused devastating injuries to three people. According to the Pinellas County arrest affidavit, Taylor Harvey was operating a Chevrolet Tahoe on the morning of January 7 when she engaged in a high-speed race with another vehicle on Seminole Boulevard. Witnesses at the scene and surveillance footage from neighboring businesses confirmed that the vehicles were competing for position before the crash occurred. The intensity of the race culminated in Harvey’s vehicle violently striking a Mazda SUV, an impact that authorities described as causing catastrophic damage to the victim's vehicle.

Data Retrieval Confirms Extreme Velocity

The Clearwater Police Department utilized a Crash Data Retrieval report to reconstruct the moments leading up to the impact, uncovering evidence of extreme negligence. According to police officials, the analysis of the Tahoe’s speed, braking, and steering systems showed Harvey was traveling at 91 mph in a zone where the maximum limit is 45 mph. This data suggests that the vehicle was moving at more than twice the legal speed at the point of the collision. The technical report serves as a central pillar of the prosecution's case, establishing the reckless nature of the driving that preceded the wounding of the three victims.

Catastrophic Physical Toll on Victims

The human cost of the collision has been profound, with all three occupants of the Mazda suffering life-altering wounds. According to the arrest affidavit, the front seat passenger sustained a traumatic brain injury alongside various internal wounds, while the driver suffered a broken pelvis and multiple bone fractures. More than two months after the incident, the driver reportedly remains unable to walk as a result of the trauma. Additionally, a passenger in the rear seat of the SUV was treated for a torn stomach and other critical internal injuries, highlighting the sheer force of the 91 mph impact.
