The Ambush During Content Creation
Citizen TV sports anchor and reporter Immanuel Ndungu has shared a detailed account of a life-threatening encounter with suspected robbers that occurred on Sunday. The journalist, known for his distinctive reporting style and growing social media presence, was reportedly out for a walk and recording a video when he was targeted. According to Ndungu, the incident began when he heard a motorcycle approaching him from behind. As he held his device up to film, a passenger on the motorcycle attempted to snatch the phone directly from his hand, initiating a chaotic series of events.
Physical Scuffle and Retrieval of the Device
The attempted theft led to a frantic struggle between the journalist and the assailant. During the scuffle, the phone slipped from Ndungu’s grasp and fell onto the roadway. In a tense moment of competition, both Ndungu and the suspect rushed toward the device. Ndungu managed to retrieve the phone first and subsequently confronted the man over the attempted robbery. However, the situation turned more dangerous when the suspect allegedly reached toward his waist, suggesting he might be armed. Alarmed by the potential of a weapon being drawn, Ndungu made the immediate decision to flee the scene on foot.
A Tense Foot and Motorcycle Chase
What followed was a high-speed pursuit as both the motorcycle rider and the accomplice—who had dismounted to chase Ndungu on foot—attempted to catch the journalist. Ndungu described the terrifying experience of being hunted by both a vehicle and a pedestrian attacker simultaneously. "I dashed so fast, these guys started chasing me," he stated in a video update, expressing shock that the incident occurred in an area he considered relatively safe compared to parts of Nairobi where such crimes are more frequent. He eventually managed to outrun his pursuers and find safety.
