Golders Green Attack Declared a Terrorist Incident

Following a violent assault on Highfield Avenue in Barnet on Wednesday morning, Counter Terrorism Policing has taken over the investigation into the stabbing of two Jewish men. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor confirmed that the attack, which occurred at approximately 11:16 am, has been formally designated a terrorist incident. A 45-year-old male suspect was tasered and arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder after reportedly attempting to attack responding police officers. Authorities are currently investigating whether the victims, who remain in stable condition, were deliberately targeted due to their faith.

Chief Rabbi Rejects Routine Condemnations

Sir Ephraim Mirvis, the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, reacted to the stabbings by stating that "words of condemnation are no longer sufficient." In a statement released shortly after the attack, Mirvis argued that the current climate of antisemitism in the United Kingdom has reached a critical threshold that demands concrete intervention from every social and political institution. He warned that it has become "dangerous to openly walk the streets as a Jew" in London, calling on the British government to treat the moment as a catalyst for urgent systemic change.

A Growing Pattern of Antisemitic Violence

The stabbing represents the latest escalation in what security officials describe as a sustained campaign of intimidation against London’s Jewish community. Since March 2026, the capital has witnessed a string of arson attacks, chemical threats, and explosive devices targeting synagogues, schools, and charities. Notably, the scene of Wednesday's stabbing is less than half a mile from a memorial wall targeted by arsonists earlier this week and near the site where four Jewish community ambulances were destroyed by fire in late March. This sequence of events has left community volunteers and security groups like Shomrim significantly overstretched.
