Casualty Breakdown of 'Operation Epic Fury'

As the U.S.-led offensive against Iran enters its fourth week, U.S. Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for Central Command, provided the most comprehensive casualty update to date. Of the 303 wounded service members, 273 have already returned to their posts, highlighting the largely non-life-threatening nature of the injuries, which officials say frequently include traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) from nearby blast concussions. However, 10 service members remain in serious condition.

The death toll for U.S. forces stands at 13, with fatalities split between the Persian Gulf (7) and Iraq (6). Many of these deaths occurred during the initial retaliatory strikes by Iran following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the war's opening day.

Iran’s ‘Hotel Target’ Doctrine

In a chilling escalation of threats against U.S. personnel, Iranian military spokesperson Abolfazl Shekarchi announced on state television that civilian infrastructure hosting American troops would no longer be off-limits. "When all the Americans go into a hotel, then from our perspective that hotel becomes American," Shekarchi stated. This policy shift appears to be a response to reports that U.S. soldiers have moved out of centralized military bases in the Gulf—which are vulnerable to missile barrages—and into commercial hotels and offices to act as a dispersed "human shield."
