The Critique That Sparked the Fire
The tension reached a boiling point during the audition of contestant Mor Ilderton. Despite the high stakes of Hollywood Week, Mor chose to perform an original song rather than utilize the show's professional house band. Underwood, known for her "brutally honest" judging style since replacing Katy Perry in 2025, didn't hold back.
"You guys are gonna boo me... It's coming. Bring it on. I love it!" she told the audience before turning to the contestant. "In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was a missed opportunity." As the Nashville crowd erupted in jeers, Underwood remained composed, eventually telling the audience directly, "You're not included in the discussions."
Luke Bryan Comes to the Defense
Fellow judge Luke Bryan attempted to quiet the hostile crowd by reminding them of Underwood’s credentials. "She only won this," he told the audience, referencing her 2005 victory. "She knows." In a lighter moment, Underwood turned to Bryan to ask why the crowd never boos him. When the audience obliged and booed Bryan as well, he joked, "I’m trying to get booed!"
