Advanced Hybrid Technology And Variant Options
BYD has expanded its South African footprint with the introduction of the ATTO 8, a luxury seven-seater SUV designed to cater to both performance enthusiasts and practical family needs. The vehicle utilizes BYD's fifth-generation Dual Mode Super Hybrid technology and is available in two distinct plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions: the Premium DM-i and the Performance DM-p. This dual-track strategy allows the company to offer high-efficiency daily commuting alongside powerful, all-terrain capabilities.
High Performance Metrics and Acceleration
The ATTO 8's Performance DM-p edition is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with dual electric motors, producing a combined output of 400 kW (536 hp) and achieving a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 4.3 seconds. For those opting for the battery electric vehicle (BEV) configuration, the dual-motor system reaches a staggering 810 kW (1,086 hp), enabling an even faster 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. This makes the ATTO 8 one of the most powerful SUVs currently available in its class.
Range, Charging, and The "Super E" Platform
A standout feature of the new model is its robust range and charging infrastructure. The PHEV variants utilize a 35.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing over 150 km of pure electric range and a combined distance exceeding 1,000 km. The BEV variant features a 100 kWh battery with a single-charge range of over 600 km. Built on an advanced 1,000-volt "Super E" platform, the ATTO 8 supports ultra-fast charging, capable of adding 400 km of range in as little as five minutes for the BEV model.
