The Virtual Coach in the Headset
Thibault Roux, Burger King’s Chief Digital Officer, describes Patty as a "coaching tool" designed to elevate the guest experience. By analyzing drive-thru audio, the AI identifies whether employees use specific welcoming phrases and polite language. While currently focused on keyword recognition, Burger King is actively "iterating" on the system's ability to capture the tone and sentiment of conversations. Managers can access this data to generate friendliness performance reports for their specific locations.
Streamlining Kitchen Operations
Patty serves as a hands-free manual for kitchen staff. Employees can use voice commands to ask for specific recipe details such as the correct topping count for a Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper or request maintenance instructions for complex equipment like shake machines. This integration aims to reduce errors and speed up training for new hires by providing instant, accurate answers without requiring them to leave their stations to consult a physical handbook or a supervisor.
A Unified Digital Ecosystem
The BK Assistant platform connects drive-thru conversations with the restaurant's inventory and cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) systems. If a machine fails or a specific ingredient is depleted, Patty alerts the manager and triggers a system-wide update. Within 15 minutes, the out-of-stock item is removed from indoor kiosks, digital menu boards, and drive-thru displays. This automation is intended to prevent customer frustration caused by ordering unavailable items.
