Allegations of Undemocratic Ambitions for 2027

Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has raised alarms over what he describes as a systemic plot to dismantle Nigeria's multi party democracy. In a public statement issued on Thursday, George accused the All Progressives Congress and the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, of maneuvering to ensure President Bola Tinubu remains the sole candidate for the 2027 general election. Invoking the biblical story of Abimelech, George warned that leaders who destroy democratic fundamentals to maintain power will eventually face divine and public consequences.

Criticism of Electoral Body and Institutional Integrity

The PDP elder statesman directed sharp criticism toward the leadership of the electoral umpire, specifically accusing Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan of facilitating the decimation of opposition structures. George alleged that the commission is currently using legal technicalities to remove the executives of rival political parties, effectively serving as an undertaker for democratic tenets. He cautioned that these actions are eroding the spinal cord of participatory democracy, stressing that no leader remains in office indefinitely and that institutional rot will leave a damaging legacy for the nation.

Neglect of the National Security Crisis

According to George, the federal government has failed to adequately address the rampant killings and kidnappings that continue to plague the country. He noted that the Commander in Chief frequently issues statements after violent incidents but fails to deploy the necessary energy to neutralize criminal elements. George argued that the resources and political willpower currently being used to stifle political rivals should instead be redirected toward stopping the bloodthirsty maniacs responsible for national instability. He characterized the current state of the nation as a gradual collapse fueled by leadership that is not living up to constitutional expectations.
