Law Enforcement Accountability and the Dismissal of Deputy Gibson

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has taken decisive action against one of its own following a breach of conduct during a field operation. Deputy Meshaun Gibson, a member of the agency's patrol division, was officially terminated from her position on Thursday afternoon. The dismissal, executed by Chief Deputy Chris Patterson, followed an internal affairs investigation that scrutinized Gibson’s actions during an arrest earlier this month. Authorities indicated that the findings of the probe necessitated immediate removal from the force and the pursuit of criminal charges.

The Riverside Drive Encounter and Use of Force Findings

The investigation centered on an incident that took place on April 3 at a residential location in the 3600 block of Riverside Drive. During the course of the arrest, Gibson allegedly struck a male subject in the face. While use of force is sometimes a component of law enforcement duties, the internal review focused on the level of resistance offered by the individual. According to the news release from the sheriff’s office, the investigation concluded that the man was being fully compliant with officer commands at the moment he was struck by the deputy.

Criminal Charges and Legal Surrender at the Law Enforcement Center

Beyond the loss of her professional standing, Gibson now faces the Georgia judicial system as a defendant. A warrant was issued for her arrest on a single charge of simple battery, a classification that reflects the physical nature of the unauthorized strike. Following her termination, Gibson complied with the legal requirements of the warrant and turned herself in to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on Thursday night. Records indicate she was processed and subsequently released after posting bond.
