The Conclusion of a 2023 Homicide Case

A Washington County judge has finalized the sentencing for Talon Gabriel Mitchell, a Beaverton resident responsible for the death of his 24-year-old wife. The sentencing follows a court appearance on Tuesday, March 10, where Mitchell, now 22, formally entered a guilty plea. The court's decision marks the end of a legal process that began over three years ago when local authorities discovered a fatal crime scene in a suburban apartment complex.

Discovery of the Crime Scene

The investigation was initiated on February 23, 2023, when officers from the Beaverton Police Department were dispatched to perform a welfare check at an apartment located in the 1000 block of Southwest 160th Avenue. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the body of Oulaykham Mona Chopheng. Forensic investigators determined that Chopheng had died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Mitchell, who was 19 years old at the time of the incident, was detained at the scene for questioning.

Evidence and Legal Proceedings

Detectives from the Beaverton Police Department worked extensively to gather physical and digital evidence linking Mitchell to the discharge of the firearm. According to the case file, the evidence overwhelmingly supported the conclusion that Mitchell was responsible for the fatal shooting. Faced with the investigative findings, Mitchell reached a plea agreement with the Washington County District Attorney’s Office. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
