A Legacy of Transformation and Academic Growth

Baze University, Abuja, celebrated its 2026 Founder’s Day on Wednesday, March 11, under the theme “Legacy in Action: Students as Custodians of the Founders’ Vision.” The event served as a milestone to reflect on the institution's rapid evolution since its inception in 2011. From its humble beginnings with only two faculties and approximately 20 students, the university has expanded into a premier educational hub, now boasting nine faculties, a College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and a diverse enrollment of over 7,000 students.

Chancellor’s Charge: Education as a National Tool

The University’s Founder and Chancellor, Distinguished Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, PhD, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the transformative power of education in nation-building. Senator Baba-Ahmed urged the student body to maintain a steadfast commitment to integrity, critical thinking, and innovation. He noted that the university's mission remains rooted in providing world-class education within Nigeria, reducing the need for students to seek quality higher education abroad. He specifically charged faculty members to prioritize mentorship and research to maintain the institution's competitive edge.

Institutional Achievements and Future Horizons

Vice-Chancellor Professor Jamila Shuara detailed the university's impressive metrics, noting that the institution has successfully produced over 4,500 graduates to date and currently offers 116 accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs. She highlighted the success of the university’s teaching hospital, which is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities. Looking ahead, Professor Shuara announced that plans are finalized for the take-off of the Baze Aviation School at the institution’s Bwari campus, a move intended to diversify the university's professional training portfolio.
