Negotiated Plea Deal and Sentencing Terms
Campbell opted to accept a plea deal while attorneys were in the process of selecting a jury for his original second-degree murder and first-degree feticide charges. By confessing to a reduced charge of manslaughter and pleading guilty as charged to feticide he was able to avoid the possibility of a life sentence. Under the terms of the negotiated agreement Campbell will serve a total of thirty years in prison for the pair of convictions. District Judge Louise Hines has scheduled the formal sentencing for Friday afternoon.
Tragic Case of Mistaken Identity
Prosecutors detailed that the shooting was the result of a tragic mistake where the gunmen confused Johnson’s white car with another vehicle. Earlier that evening an occupant of a similar vehicle had reportedly fired a gunshot into the air while driving past the party. Video footage from the residential block showed Campbell and another man crouching down as Johnson’s vehicle approached before raising their firearms and opening fire. Investigators linked Campbell specifically to a 9mm semi-automatic pistol used in the attack after collecting shell casings from the scene.
Legal Status of Co-Defendants in the Homicide
Campbell was one of five men originally indicted in relation to the death of Johnson and her unborn child. Marques Kevon Porch pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in October 2024 and received two years of probation. Gregory Parker Jr. accepted a plea deal for illegal carrying of weapons and was ordered to serve six months in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Desmond Robinson pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and received a five-year prison sentence in April 2025. Derrick Dewayne Curry currently remains the lone defendant awaiting trial which has been delayed until later this year.
