Strategic Energy Alignment in Antalya

In a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum on April 17, 2026, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar formalized a commitment to expedite regional energy projects. The discussions focused on the "Mapping Tomorrow, Managing Uncertainties" theme of the forum, emphasizing the need for a resilient energy partnership between Baku and Ankara. Both nations confirmed that their bilateral agenda is now pivoting toward the rapid integration of renewable energy sources into existing hydrocarbon export frameworks.

Acceleration of Dual Green Corridors

The primary outcome of the summit was an agreement to "boost the process" of constructing two vital green energy interconnectors. The first, the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Europe corridor, is designed to channel wind and solar power from the Caspian region directly into the Turkish and EU grids. The second, the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria route, aims to diversify the energy mix of the Balkans. These corridors are viewed as essential infrastructure for Azerbaijan’s goal to export over 70 percent of its green energy capacity by 2030, transforming the South Caucasus into a renewable energy hub.

Global Impact of the Turkic Partnership

Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized that the partnership serves a critical role in stabilizing global markets during a period of intense geopolitical volatility. By diversifying energy resources and expanding wind, solar, and nuclear technologies, Turkey and Azerbaijan are positioning themselves as the primary alternative to traditional northern energy routes. Bayraktar noted that the resilience of this corridor is vital for the broader energy security of the European continent, especially as EU member states seek long-term, sustainable partnerships outside of Russian influence.
