A Hub for Technological Integration
Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has officially opened its doors for the AI & Babcock Innovation Venture (BIV) Commercialization Summit 2026. Scheduled for April 21 to 22, the event is hosted at the institution’s 600-seater auditorium and serves as a premier gathering for technology leaders, innovators, and policymakers. The summit is designed to explore practical methodologies for funding and scaling AI-driven enterprises specifically tailored to the African economic landscape, reinforcing the institution's role as a leader in regional technological development.
From Research to Revenue
A primary focus of the summit is the operationalization of the Babcock Innovation and Venture Centre. This commercialization hub is specifically designed to transform academic research outputs into viable, market-ready products. Vice-Chancellor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole noted that this initiative allows researchers to begin earning from their intellectual property, thereby encouraging a culture of productivity and tangible labor rewards. The university aims to position itself as an ecosystem where innovation does not stop at discovery but extends into the global marketplace.
Prioritizing Skills Over Certification
During his opening remarks, Professor Ojewole emphasized a significant shift in the global economic paradigm, noting that modern industries reward practical skills over academic certificates. He stressed that technological advancement must be coupled with human values and business education. To support this vision, the university has implemented programs such as the "From Garage to Global" initiative and the Digital Growth Workshop. These efforts ensure that student innovators are not only technically proficient but also commercially aware and ready for the demands of the 21st-century professional world.
