Denial of Provocation and Infidelity

The murder trial of Benjamin Best Nnayelugo, popularly known as Killaboi, continued at the Lagos State High Court with the cross-examination of the victim’s mother, Cordelia Onuwaghagbe. Lead defense counsel Marcel Oru (SAN) suggested that the deceased, Augusta, had been unfaithful and violent during the relationship, leading to the fatal altercation. Ms. Onuwaghagbe strictly denied these assertions, stating she did not raise her daughter to engage in "hookup" sexual relations or infidelity. She further dismissed claims that Augusta had stabbed the defendant, arguing that any wounds on the defendant’s hands were self-inflicted during his attack on her daughter.

Vacation Altercations and Property Damage

The witness recounted a nine-day vacation to Seychelles where a significant conflict occurred. While the defense alleged that Augusta had destroyed hotel property—resulting in a $4,000 damage fee—Ms. Onuwaghagbe testified that the dispute began when the defendant angrily smashed Augusta’s phone while she was recording content for her social media jobs. She refuted the claim that her daughter was recording herself "virtually naked," clarifying that Augusta was simply dancing and creating videos with the defendant's initial assistance before he turned violent.

Financial Testimony and Investigation Funding

During the proceedings, the defense questioned the witness regarding substantial financial transfers made by the defendant to both the victim and her mother. Ms. Onuwaghagbe acknowledged receiving approximately ₦1.175 million in gifts at various intervals, including a ₦1 million transfer in January 2023 which the defendant claimed was a "thank you" for her prayers. She testified that she did not spend the money, instead saving it in a cooperative. Following her daughter’s death and the defendant’s disappearance, she forwarded the ₦1 million to an informant who claimed to know Killaboi’s whereabouts.
